Tokyo, Japan Travel Living Costs

Tokyo Japan is a very expensive destination for many Western travelers. While food costs seem to be surprisingly affordable, everything else seems to be pretty expensive, like lodging, transportation, and internet access. If you’re bringing a laptop, you might be able to find some free wifi since Japan is much more mobile and tech friendly than even the US.

- McDonald’s Big Mac - $2.50
- Beer - $2.30 at supermarket
- 12 oz coke - $1.20
- Cigarettes soft pack of 20 - $2.55
- Starbuck’s tall latte - $3.20
- Very Small one room apartment - $350-400/month
- Hostel dorm and capsule hotels - $25-30/night

Bangkok, Thailand Travel Living Costs

Besides being the punchline for many third grade jokes, Bangkok is one of the more popular Thailand destinations. This sweltering SE Asian destination has some urban to mix with the local thai culture. There are plenty of parties and it’s cheap just like the rest of Thailand. If Bangkok’s living cost is too high for your liking, venture out of the city to smaller places where you could potentially live on less than $15/day compared to Bangkok’s necessary $25-30/day.

- Average meal - $2. Fried rice for $1.25. Street food $.50 meat on a stick.
- Breakfast buffets - $3
- Beer - $1.75+
- Private hotel room with no air conditioning - $10 (can be even cheaper as well)

London, UK Travel Living Costs

While London is the second most expensive city in the world to live in (second to Moscow), it is still alluring to backpackers and budget travelers. Being a picturesque “European backpacking” city, London has a lot to offer 20 somethings when it comes to sights, sounds, culture, people, and nightlife, so it will ever be a premiere destination…if you can afford it. All around, living and traveling in London is expensive, with the exception of European flights since Heathrow services most every destination throughout Europe and the world.

- Beer - $4.50 for a pint, $10 for a six pack
- 1.5 liter of mineral water - $1.50
